SETTING UP OUTLOOK TO PULL IN YOUR WEBSITE EMAIL
01. Open your Microsoft Outlook program (usually from the START or PROGRAMS menu) however, on most Windows Computers, there may be an icon on the desktop for this.
02. Click on TOOLS in the top of page navigation for Outlook
03. In the TOOLS menu, click on ACCOUNTS
04. In the ACCOUNTS window, click on ADD (or New if it shows that)
05. When asked what type of account choose MAIL
06. You will be asked for a DISPLAY NAME. This is the name you want to display when people receive your emails.
07. Whenever/Wherever prompted for your email address or user ID, type in your FULL email address. Example: rick@wnywebsites.com
08. Whenever/Wherever prompted for your password, type in your email account (not your web site editing) password
09. When prompted for your INCOMING MAIL POP3 SERVER: type in:
Mail.yourdomainname.com (your actual domain name goes where I have yourdomainname.com example: mail.wnywebsites.com)
10. For the OUTGOING MAIL server (SMTP, just type in your domain name: ex. yourdomainname.com (leave off the mail.)
11. If it shows, check the box for: “Log on Using Secure Password Authentication”.
12. DO NOT change anything on the CONNECTIONS or ADVANCED tabs.
13. Click APPLY or OKAY, whichever you are asked to do (diff versions of OUTLOOK use diff verbage.)
14. That’s It! You should be all set up. You may have to close and re-open your OUTLOOK for the new account to take affect.
15. Re-Open Outlook and click on SEND/RECEIVE.
16. If OUTLOOK gives you an error when trying to send out mail, it most likely is because your particular ISP (verizon, adelphia, roadrunner, localnet, aol, etc.) has a setting that wants their program to be your default outgoing mail server. To change this you will need to contact them to find out what settings to use for outgoing mail. But at least now you should be able to pull in and read your incoming mail from your website account.
NOTE: If after you follow all of these instructions, your outlook says "CANNOT FIND SERVER" or something to that effect, go back into the mail account setup and uncheck this box for “Log on Using Secure Password Authentication”. Why? because some versions of OUTLOOK work with this checked and some do not.
